Isaiah 6:8 — Finding The Way

Beliefs, Values and Action Statements

We take as the core of our mission the commonly called “Gospel within the Gospel” – Jesus’ sermon on the mount – found in Matthew 5:5-12.

Beliefs

We are Christians living in Central Pennsylvania who believe that reshaping our world in God’s image requires dialog and united action based on common goals.

We believe that Jesus the Christ commands his disciples to proclaim the Good News in prayer, word, and deed, and to resist any efforts to systemically demean and debilitate human beings.

We believe that building God’s reign requires us to value and defend the image of Christ in each and every person without exception.

Values

We honor advocacy for the poor in spirit, those who mourn, and the meek.

We support those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, the merciful, the pure in heart, the peacemakers and those persecuted for righteousness’ sake.

We promote policies, programs, and practices that feed the hungry and thirsty, clothe the naked, heal the sick, welcome the stranger, show justice to prisoners.

Actions

We nourish respectful dialog with those who agree and disagree with us.  We are committed to listening deeply and respectfully while also speaking out with compassion, patience, and creativity.

We resist injustice and protect the vulnerable particularly those who experience discrimination based on age, race, class, gender identity, creed, sexual orientation, and/or other categories.

We advocate for political, cultural, and social change by publicly expressing our deepest concerns and strongest commitments.

We work cooperatively with other groups, Christian or not, who share our vision of a more just and merciful world.

We sustain one other in remaining steadfast in our pursuit of God’s reign even as we struggle with fear, despair, anger, and helplessness.
